Is the PADI Open Water Diver Course Right for You?
Course Facts
Here's a quick overview of the PADI Open Water Diver course, including the experience required, course duration, minimum age, maximum training depth and what's included before you get in the water.

Whether you've always wanted to learn to dive and explore the underwater world or you're simply looking to try something completely new, the PADI Open Water Diver course is designed for beginners with no previous scuba diving experience. It's the first step towards a new lifelong hobby and a world of underwater adventure.

If you're aged 10 or over, in reasonable health and comfortable in the water, the PADI Open Water Diver course is open to you. This internationally recognised certification gives you the skills and confidence to dive independently with a buddy to a maximum depth of 18 metres. Once certified, you'll be able to hire dive equipment and join guided dives with PADI dive centres around the world.

If you're looking for a course that focuses on building confident, capable divers rather than simply getting through the minimum requirements, you'll feel right at home.

Mahahual is one of Mexico's best places to learn to scuba dive. Calm Caribbean conditions, excellent visibility and the protected Mesoamerican Barrier Reef create an ideal environment for beginners to build confidence while completing their first scuba certification. It's the perfect place to begin a lifetime of underwater adventure.
Why Choose Mahahual Explorers for Your Scuba Certification?
